Itinerary
Your Moroccan adventure begins in Tangier, a city where the Mediterranean meets the Atlantic. After a brief exploration of its historic Kasbah and bustling medina, you’ll travel south to Rabat, Morocco’s capital. Here you’ll visit the Hassan Tower, the ornate Mausoleum of Mohammed V, and the Kasbah of the Udayas with its Andalusian gardens. Continuing along the Atlantic coast, you’ll reach Casablanca — the country’s largest city — in time to admire the Hassan II Mosque, a breathtaking structure perched above the ocean. The evening offers a chance to stroll along the Corniche before settling into your hotel.
After breakfast, you’ll head inland toward Marrakech, the “Red City” named for its distinctive sandstone architecture. Upon arrival, the first glimpses of the city’s palm groves and minarets give way to the bustling streets of the medina. You can spend the afternoon wandering Jemaa el-Fnaa square, where snake charmers, musicians, and sizzling food stalls compete for your attention. The warm desert light on the city’s red walls creates a magical atmosphere as night falls.
Today, a local guide will lead you through Marrakech’s fascinating history and vibrant culture. You’ll explore the Koutoubia Mosque, the intricately decorated Bahia Palace, and the historic Saadian Tombs. Stroll through the colorful souks, where every alleyway bursts with textiles, ceramics, and spices. In the afternoon, visit the serene Majorelle Garden, once owned by Yves Saint Laurent, and enjoy a quiet escape from the city’s energy. As evening approaches, return to Jemaa el-Fnaa to witness the transformation of the square into a lively night market.
Departing Marrakech, you’ll cross the winding Tizi n’Tichka Pass in the High Atlas Mountains, enjoying sweeping views along the way. Your first major stop is Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO-listed ksar of earthen architecture that has starred in films like Gladiator and Game of Thrones. After exploring its narrow passageways, continue through Ouarzazate and into the Valley of the Roses before reaching the Dades Gorges. The red rock cliffs and winding roads here create one of Morocco’s most iconic landscapes, where you’ll spend the night in a traditional guesthouse.
After breakfast, you’ll drive through the rugged Dades Valley before arriving at Todra Gorge, where towering limestone cliffs rise dramatically above a winding river. Continue toward the Sahara, passing through desert towns and oases before reaching Merzouga at the edge of the Erg Chebbi dunes. Here, camels await to carry you into the dunes just as the sun sets, painting the sands in shades of gold and orange. You’ll spend the night in a desert camp under a star-filled sky, enjoying traditional Berber music and hospitality.
Wake early to witness sunrise over the Sahara, a moment of pure tranquility. After riding back to Merzouga, you’ll begin the long but scenic journey north. The route takes you through the Ziz Valley’s lush date palms, the Middle Atlas cedar forests, and the alpine-style town of Ifrane before descending into the historic city of Fes. Arrive in the evening and settle into your riad within the medina’s walls.
Today is dedicated to a guided tour of Fes, the country’s oldest imperial city and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Navigate the labyrinth of Fes el-Bali, stopping at the Al-Qarawiyyin University, Bou Inania Madrasa, Nejjarine Fountain, and the bustling tanneries. The city’s artisan workshops, spice markets, and historic mosques offer an authentic glimpse into Morocco’s traditions. In the evening, relax in your riad, reflecting on the layers of history you’ve uncovered.
After breakfast, you’ll head back into the Rif Mountains to visit Chefchaouen, the famous “Blue Pearl” of Morocco. Spend a few hours wandering its serene blue-painted alleys, browsing local handicrafts, and enjoying views of the surrounding peaks. In the afternoon, continue your journey north to Tangier, where your Moroccan adventure concludes.
