Itinerary
We depart from Fes in the morning, driving through the Middle Atlas Mountains. Stops include Ifrane, often called the “Little Switzerland” of Morocco, and Azrou to see the cedar forests and Barbary macaques. We continue through Midelt and the lush Ziz Valley before reaching Merzouga in the late afternoon. Dinner and overnight in a local riad or hotel near the dunes.
After breakfast, we explore the Merzouga region by 4x4. Visit Khamlia village for live Gnawa music, meet nomadic families in their tents, and explore seasonal lakes and fossil fields. In the late afternoon, embark on a camel trek into the Erg Chebbi dunes to watch the sunset. Enjoy dinner, Berber music, and an overnight stay in a luxury desert camp under the star-filled Sahara sky.
Wake up early to admire the sunrise over the dunes before returning to the village for breakfast. We stop in Rissani, a historic market town, before continuing to the dramatic Todra Gorge, where towering cliffs rise 300 meters above the valley floor. After some time to walk and take photos, we continue to Dades Valley for dinner and overnight in a charming guesthouse.
After breakfast, we drive through more of the Dades Gorges and past the Valley of Roses before reaching Ouarzazate, known for its film studios. We then cross the scenic Draa Valley, Morocco’s longest palm oasis, to arrive in Zagora. In the evening, enjoy a camel ride to watch the sunset over the dunes. Dinner and overnight in a desert camp or riad in Zagora.
Today we travel back through the Draa Valley to Agdz, then continue to the UNESCO-listed Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, a striking example of Moroccan earthen architecture and a famous filming location. After exploring its winding alleys and panoramic viewpoints, we head to Ouarzazate for dinner and overnight.
After breakfast, we cross the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka pass, stopping at panoramic viewpoints for photos. If ending in Marrakech, we arrive by early evening; if returning to Fes, we retrace a scenic northern route. Your driver will drop you off at your accommodation, marking the end of your 6-day desert adventure.
