With more time than shorter trips, this itinerary allows for deeper exploration and authentic local encounters.
Itinerary
Depart from Fes in the morning and travel through the Middle Atlas Mountains, stopping in Ifrane (the “Little Switzerland” of Morocco) and Azrou to see the cedar forests and Barbary macaques. Pass through Midelt and the scenic Ziz Valley before reaching Merzouga in the late afternoon. Dinner and overnight in a hotel or riad near the dunes.
Spend the day exploring the Sahara region. Visit Khamlia village for live Gnawa music, meet nomadic families, and explore seasonal lakes and fossil fields. After lunch, set out on a camel trek into the dunes to witness the magical sunset. Enjoy dinner, traditional Berber music, and an overnight stay in a luxury desert camp beneath the starry Sahara sky.
Wake early to catch the sunrise, then return to Merzouga village for breakfast. Visit Rissani, known for its lively souk, before continuing to Todra Gorge, where you can walk between its towering cliffs. We then travel through the Valley of Roses and reach Dades Valley for dinner and an overnight stay in a charming guesthouse.
After breakfast, we take time to explore the spectacular Dades Gorges, following winding roads through dramatic rock formations and stopping at viewpoints overlooking the valley’s lush oases and traditional Berber villages. You’ll see the famous “Monkey Fingers” rock formations and the breathtaking panorama of the Dades Valley before continuing our journey towards Ouarzazate, known for its world-famous film studios where blockbusters like Gladiator, The Mummy, and Game of Thrones were filmed.
In the afternoon, we visit the UNESCO World Heritage Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, an extraordinary example of southern Moroccan earthen clay architecture. This fortified village, with its maze of narrow alleys and towering kasbahs, has been a key stop on the ancient caravan route between the Sahara and Marrakech for centuries. You’ll have time to explore its atmospheric streets, climb to the highest point for panoramic views, and capture stunning photographs. Dinner and overnight stay in Ouarzazate, where the charm of the desert meets the magic of cinema.
Today we cross the High Atlas Mountains via the scenic Tizi n’Tichka pass, stopping at panoramic viewpoints along the way. Arrive in Marrakech by early afternoon, where your driver will drop you off at your accommodation, marking the end of your 5-day desert adventure.
