Itinerary
Your journey begins early, leaving Marrakech behind as you climb into the majestic High Atlas Mountains. The winding road through the Tizi n’Tichka Pass offers breathtaking panoramic views of rugged peaks and deep valleys dotted with traditional Berber villages. Along the way, stop at the famous Aït Ben Haddou Kasbah, a striking example of Moroccan earthen clay architecture and a UNESCO World Heritage site that has starred in numerous Hollywood films. After exploring this ancient fortress, you continue through winding roads, passing dramatic rock formations and oasis-like palm groves. As you reach the Dades Valley, the landscape softens into a verdant paradise surrounded by towering cliffs and winding rivers, where you’ll spend the night soaking in the peaceful atmosphere of a traditional guesthouse.
After breakfast, your route leads you to the awe-inspiring Todra Gorge—a spectacular canyon with sheer red rock walls soaring over 300 meters high. Here, take time to walk along the shaded riverbanks and snap photos of this natural wonder. Leaving the gorge behind, the scenery shifts as you drive through vast palm groves and fertile lands nourished by the Draa River. As you approach Merzouga, the landscape transforms dramatically into the golden sands of the Sahara Desert. At sunset, hop on a camel for a peaceful trek over the rolling Erg Chebbi dunes, watching the sun cast warm hues across the endless sandscape. The night is spent in a Berber camp, where you’ll enjoy traditional music, hearty meals, and the quiet magic of the desert under a vast, starry sky.
Rise early to witness the spectacular sunrise over the dunes, a serene and unforgettable moment. After a camel ride back to Merzouga village, you begin the journey home. The road traces the lush Draa Valley, famed for its dense palm oases, fortified kasbahs, and vibrant local markets. Along the way, pause in picturesque Berber villages to experience authentic Moroccan culture and hospitality. A stop in Ouarzazate offers a glimpse of Morocco’s “Hollywood,” where you can explore film studios and historic sites. As you cross back over the High Atlas Mountains, the changing landscapes reflect the end of an incredible adventure, returning you to Marrakech in the evening with memories that will last a lifetime.
